ABOUT THE RIVER

The Berounka River is very popular with paddlers and other nature lovers. Beyond Plzeň, it flows through the secluded countryside of the Horní Berounka Nature Park.
There are numerous fortresses and castle ruins near the river (Libštejn, Krašov, Týřov, etc.). Some of these and many other attractions can be visited directly from the river. Popular stretches run through the Křivoklátsko Protected Landscape Area and the Bohemian Karst, particularly the Berounka Paddling Nature Trail, which starts at Zvíkovec and ends near Hlásná Třebaň. Stops along the nature trail include the Skryje pools, the Tetín rocks, Karlštejn, Zadní Třebaň and the Alkazar quarry.

With its gentle current, the Berounka is suitable for beginners, families with children and school paddling trips. Experienced paddlers will also enjoy the peace and beautiful countryside. The Berounka can be paddled throughout the summer, with the highest flows most often occurring in spring.

It is best to divide the trip into sections of 10 – 20 km/day. There are many campsites, camping grounds and refreshment stops along the way.
